Debian

Experience Level: Expert

Debian is by far my favorite Linux distribution. I have been using Debian for over 9 years, and I am very familiar with all aspects of managing and maintaining Debian deployments.

Things I like about Debian

  • Rock solid and more secure than most other linux distributions.
  • The apt package management system is far better than any other package management solution due to its automatic dependency fetching
  • Very few package problems with the stable branch.

Things I don't like about Debian

  • Slow moving. Packages for fairly active projects are usually major revisions behind.
  • GPL politics.
